Rat Queens

Kurtis J. Wiebe, Roc Upchurch · Image, 2013–23

The Rat Queens are a band of adventurers for hire, and they are exactly what happens when a party of tabletop roleplayers is left to its own devices: an elven mage, a dwarf fighter, a human cleric and a small thief who is mostly interested in sweets and drugs. They drink, fight, swear and occasionally save the town, usually by accident.

It is fantasy comedy with an edge, and it is very funny: anyone who has played Dungeons & Dragons will recognise the party dynamics, and the violence is splashy and silly. Later volumes have different artists and a changing tone, but the first book is a riot. See the SFcrowsnest tabletop guide for the games it gently mocks.
