Asterios Polyp is an architect who is famous for designs that have never been built, and when his apartment burns down, he leaves New York and takes a job as a mechanic in a small town, where he begins to reflect on his life and his failed marriage.
Mazzucchelli, who drew Batman: Year One and Daredevil: Born Again, uses different drawing styles, colours and lettering for each character, so that the design of the page tells the story as much as the words. It is a dazzling, witty and moving book about design, identity and love.
