Dark Horse's first Aliens comic was a sequel to James Cameron's film, following Hicks and Newt as they discover that humanity has not learned its lesson about the xenomorphs. It was a huge success, and it established Dark Horse as a major publisher.
The black-and-white art is grim and atmospheric, and the story is ambitious, dealing with religious cults, corporate greed and military cover-ups. It was overtaken by Alien 3, which killed off Hicks and Newt, but it remains one of the best Alien stories in any medium. Dark Horse also came up with the idea of setting Aliens against Predators, which Hollywood later borrowed.
