Waiting For The Barbarians (fantasy film: trailer).
Waiting For The Barbarians is a philosophical fantasy film set in a parallel reality 19th-century Imperium (based on the novel of the same name by South African writer J. M. Coetzee), where the magistrate (played by Mark Rylance) of an isolated frontier settlement on the border looks forward to an easy retirement – that is, until the arrival of Colonel Joll (Johnny Depp), whose task it is to report on the activities of the mysterious ‘barbarians’ and stabilise the security situation along the border.
Joll then conducts a series of ruthless interrogations and raids, which leads the magistrate to question the nature of Empire and his loyalty to the Imperium.
The film is directed by Ciro Guerra and stars Mark Rylance, Robert Pattinson, and Johnny Depp.
