Velma is the new adult animated mystery comedy series, based on the character Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise. Charlie Grandy created the show and stars Mindy Kaling as the voice of Velma, with Sam Richardson, Constance Wu, and Glenn Howerton in supporting roles. The series focuses on Velma and the other members of Mystery Inc. before their official formation.

They pitched the series as a “love quadrangle” between the characters and promises to explore the relationships and dynamics between them. The show features an all-star voice cast, with Mindy Kaling playing Velma, who is portrayed as Indian-American for the first time. Sam Richardson voices Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, portrayed as African-American for the first time. Constance Wu voices Daphne Blake, portrayed as Asian-American for the first time, and Glenn Howerton voices Fred Jones.

The show also features a host of other voice actors, including Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Sarayu Blue, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, Nicole Byer, Gary Cole, Stephen Root, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Karl-Anthony Towns, Ken Leung, and Kulap Vilaysack in undisclosed roles.

The series will have ten episodes released in pairs on HBO Max, starting January 12, 2023. The episodes will explore the relationships and dynamics of the characters and their journey to becoming Mystery Inc.
