World getting weirder

UFO/UAP news roundup (28th March 2025).

Here’s the semi-irregular round-up of all the best new content that is fit to print, and some that probably isn’t, concerning the topic of UFOs, UAPs, and a sugary side-dollop of woo.

We’ve also bundled the semi-regular geo-politics/tech outlook to the end, given it’s getting onto Winter and things are still rather quiet.

Well, here’s one for the tin-foil-hatted intelligentsia. Economist Robin Hanson has floated a tantalising theory: could humanity be nothing more than a cosmic ant farm, diligently monitored by an alien civilisation that’s a cool million years ahead of us? Perhaps they’re benevolent caretakers, or maybe just interstellar scientists with a very long-term research grant. Hanson even suggests we might share an ancient lineage—talk about distant relatives overstaying their welcome!

But fear not, dear reader, because after stirring the cosmic pot, Hanson swings neatly back down to Earth, diving into the murkier depths of academic funding and the peer review circus. Which, when you think about it, might just be stranger and scarier than alien overlords anyway. Here at SFcrowsnest magazine, we suspect extraterrestrials gave up on academia centuries ago—after all, even aliens have limits.

The Vobester pushes into the area of UFOs with a first-hand interview detailing a rather uncovered British incident with a craft that could have come straight out of the classic movie Encounters of the Third Kind.

Cybersecurity expert Thom Hastings delves into the exploits of three hackers who targeted US government systems between 1992 and 2002 in search of UFO evidence. In 1992, a hacker known only as “Quentin” accessed Project Green Cheese / Project ALF-1 data, later detailed in Phrack Magazine. In 1996, Mathew “Kuji” Bevan used a humble Commodore Amiga to breach US Air Force, NASA, and NATO systems, claiming to have uncovered evidence of an antigravity drive linked to UFO technology. In 2002, Gary “SOLO” McKinnon famously infiltrated US military networks, alleging he found UFO images, spreadsheets listing “non-terrestrial officers,” and references to mysterious “fleet-to-fleet transfers” involving unnamed ships. Hastings, with extensive experience in offensive security and a background in astrobiology, explores what these hackers found — and the consequences they faced for their cosmic curiosity.

Dr. John Brandenburg, a former Department of Energy scientist, claims in a new American Alchemy interview with Jesse Michels that Mars experienced an ancient nuclear catastrophe — and NASA has been covering it up. Brandenburg alleges the agency suppressed evidence of this planetary disaster, linking the secrecy to classified military programs and revealing that Carl Sagan himself pressured him to stay silent on the matter. He also recounts encounters with Pentagon insiders who confirmed a UFO cover-up at the highest levels of government, adding yet another layer to the ongoing mystery of extraterrestrial secrecy.

There’s a lot of chatter about UFOs and how government disclosure could go down – but how about Joe Public and their daily interactions with sightings of odd craft that may or may not be ET? Luckily for us, the Dolanoid is still on the case!

Congress is once again diving into the UFO mystery with a joint hearing titled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth.” On Reality Check, Ross Coulthart speaks with key witness Retired Navy Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., who boldly states, “We have evidence that we are not alone.” Troubled by government secrecy, Gallaudet is ready to take an oath and share what he knows with lawmakers, championing full transparency in the search for the truth about UAPs.

Join Jesse Michels on American Alchemy as he interviews Joe McMoneagle, the CIA’s top remote viewer, who reveals his role in uncovering intelligence secrets, his Mars-related remote viewing claims, and insights into consciousness and the potential for past life on the Red Planet.

Former U.S. Air Force counterintelligence officer Richard Doty, infamous in UFO circles, reflects on his role in one of the most notorious disinformation campaigns in UFO history—the psychological operation against researcher Paul Bennewitz. In the 1980s, Bennewitz believed he had uncovered extraterrestrial activity near Kirtland Air Force Base, but instead of correcting him, Doty and various agencies (NSA, CIA, DIA) deliberately fed him false information, leading to his mental deterioration. The interview explores Doty’s thoughts on potential reparations for Bennewitz’s family, journalist Linda Moulton Howe, and his take on the modern UAP landscape amidst recent whistleblower claims.
