The Twelfth Doctor: Actor Peter Capaldi: observations by: GF Willmetts.

One thing I knew they couldn’t do with the next regeneration of the Doctor was make him younger than Matt Smith who was 26 years old when he took the role. I commented when Smith took over that at this rate the next Doctor won’t have been born yet.

Doctor Who... all change, as Peter Capaldi steps into the TARDIS.

One of the earlier criteria since Russell T. Davies restarted the series was for the Doctor was to have an actor young and energetic because of the hectic schedule. Peter Capaldi at 55 is nearly my age but he’s also very energetic and a superb character actor. From his interview on Sunday night, you’re not going to get any indication of what he will do with the part, let alone if he’s going to look like he normally does. Oddly, he looks a lot more like an older David Tennant but with the character actor skills of Patrick Troughton and also the second Scot to take the part.

How the new season of 2014 will be is anyone’s guess. One thing for sure is that Peter Capaldi is unlikely to be predictable which also means the line will have to be raised as to what will happen next. Hope he’s ready for the surgery to put the second heart in his chest and will he be the one to marry River Song?

Questions. Questions. But no longer a who just a when will he arrive.

  • He’s the third Scot to have the part. Don’t forget Sylvester McCoy, as well as David Tennant.

  • Hello Martin

Actually, I didn’t even think of David Tennant, mostly because he didn’t use his Scots accent. I stand corrected. Actually, I’m sitting down but you know what I mean.
McCoy still sounded faintly Scots. Whether Peter Capaldi will is a wait until next Easter.
