Flynne (Chloe Grace Moret) and her brother, Burton, are the protagonists of the story set in a dark failed USA-future. A former member of the elite Haptic Recon unit of the United States Marine Corps, Burton is a seasoned military professional. After being convinced that he is applying for a job in cyberspace, he gets recruited for a security position. Flynne fills in for him for a little while and sees something that could have been murder.

For fans, it should be noted that William Gibson’s Agency takes place in the same universe as The Peripheral, and both books deal with parallel timelines that are ultimately intertwined.
