Terry Pratchett (1948-2015) a brief reminisce by: Phil Jones
Terry Pratchett was probably one of the best known fantasy authors in the UK and the world. Mixing pure fantasy tropes with humour, cutting social commentary and some of the most loved and entertaining characters. He created an amazing complex Discworld which readers could get lost in.
Writing over 70 books and also collaborating with the likes of Neil Gaiman and Stephen Baxter. He has publicly shared his diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s back in 2007 and campaigned and tried to raise awareness for the disease and the problems it brings.
In his last few tweets in his Twitter feed he referenced his character, Death: ‘AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.’
Terry took Death’s arm, the following tweet read, ‘and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.’
His first book was ‘The Colour Of Magic’ back in 1983 with his last book ‘Raising Steam’ published last year being his 40th book in the ‘Discworld’ series.
From blatantly bonkers silliness to the most creative complex ideas, this well loved author and character will be sorely missed around the world.
