Taika Waititi to make a new Star Wars film for the cinema (news).
Actor, director and all-round Renaissance bod Taika Waititi (of Jo-Jo Rabbit fame), is taking on the Star Wars universe as he has been tapped to direct and co-write an original film in the franchise. That should be, ummm, interesting. And possibly very special.
His bud in the co-writing chair will be Krysty Wilson-Cairns of 1917 fame (the war movie).
There is also going to be another TV project for Star Wars on the way from writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the brand new series.
It should be pointed out that this is in addition to the two previously announced Star Wars series coming solely for streaming: one based on Cassian Andor’s life before the events of Rogue One, and another new series following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi to be set chronologically between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
