SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival 2017 Awards – Winners Announced!

UK, London – Friday 5th May 2017 – As another successful SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival draws to a close this Saturday (6th May) we are excited to announce 2017’s festival award winners. This year’s competitions included the extremely popular ’48 Hour Film Challenge’ which requires all entrants to create a short film in just two days. The £500 prize & £10,000 in camera and software equipment went to ‘Missing Edge’ by Team Bustabowl who beat stiff competition and over 140 other entrants to be crowned the victor of this year’s challenge, an honour awarded to Rogue One Director Gareth Edwards in 2008.

The ’48 Hour Flash Fiction Challenge’ also returned to the festival this year asking challengers to create a short piece of fiction over 48 hours based only on a title, line of dialogue and a few other small details given to all entrants. After sifting through hundreds of entrants this year’s jury whittled them down to 2017’s top 3 with Sian Summers’ The Truth Value claiming first place and the £500 prize.

This year SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival also teamed up with New Scientist & PsychFi to create a new challenge and asked all entrants to create an ‘untethered immersive mobile experience’ in the ‘VR Science Challenge’. All challengers were briefed to explain a scientific principle or theory and explain it through the use of VR technology. Adam Azmy was awarded first place, and claimed the £1000 prize, with his immersive experience ‘The Law Of Gravity’.
