Richard Hatch, Battlestar Galactica’s original Apollo, dies of cancer.
Richard Hatch, Battlestar Galactica’s original Apollo, has sadly passed away of pancreatic cancer at the too young age of 71. He later went on to play a dodgy labour organiser with ambitions of power as the rather evil Tom Zarek in the Galactica re-imagining.
He started off as Michael Douglas’s replacement in the cop series The Streets of San Francisco, which didn’t work out so well. Perhaps it was that experience that made him steer clear of the rather awful Galactica 1980 TV series. He did campaign for a long time for a decent Galactica sequel with his own The Second Coming proposals.
In 2013, he appeared in the steampunk short Cowboys & Engines (with Malcolm McDowell and Walter Koenig). In 2014, he played the Klingon Commander Kharn in the Star Trek fan movie Prelude To Axanar.
