Makey the makies.

Here’s a novel concept, and one that is trail-blazing the way for a slew of such future offerings – a new toy called Makies. Now, if you’re over 30 and in the family way, you no doubt have already been subjected to the pester power of such brands as Build-a-Bear, where you customize a cuddly toy with a few clothes, ‘choose a heart’, then stuff said toy (shortly before you’re stuffed for the best part of £30 you’re never going to see again).

Well, combine that concept with 3-D printing, remove the schmaltzy ‘blow love and kisses into your heart’ crap, add loads more modding options, and you basically have the idea behind Makies. Or as they say themselves…

MakieLab is a new toys and games company based in Shoreditch, London. We’re making a new kind of future-smashing toy: customisable, 3D-printed, locally made, and game-enabled.

“We’ve seen amazing levels of creativity from our customers since letting the first few in during open alpha just a few weeks ago. We’re now hard at work to enable further customisation of MAKIES, more creativity, and to expand to include digital and physical gaming,” noted their founder Alice Taylor.
