Justice League United: Justice League Canada Volume 1 by Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone (graphic novel review)

If you’re interested in a detailed overview of the issue history, I recommend reading the indicia for ‘Justice League United: The Infinitus Saga Volume 2’. Justice League United #6-10; Justice League United Annual #1; Justice League: Future’s End 1; and Justice League United: Future’s End 1.  Rather than continuing from volume 1 above, the opening story sets five years in the future, revealing the fates of some characters in a new story.

While Star Girl and Animal Man are conducting a book signing, Adam Strange discovers that this is the sole method to locate superheroes after the dissolution of the Justice League. His girlfriend, Alana, has vanished from a site in Alaska, and he discovers an unusual device and an alien skull. As they investigate, Star Girl utilizes her Justice League communicator to reach out to anyone still in contact. This brings in the Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow. We catch the first glimpses of a genetic program in action as they come under attack. The off-planet prison houses the people who stole the genes, and Alana unintentionally joined their ranks. We also get to see the New 52 version of Lobo. The New 52 version of Lobo may not be as wild or as powerful as the one I recall, but it remains just as vicious.

You see various hands in this. Obviously, the scientists from Rann and Adam Strange get a battlesuit, gun, and jetpack. Other characters appear, such as Supergirl and Hawkman, but further details, such as the identities of the villains, will be revealed in due course. It’s definitely a new villain but no less devious on this roller coaster. The thing is, this is only the first half, and it probably needs me to read the second half to see where it leads.  The Martian Manhunter is currently protecting Ultra, a young man capable of great things in the future, as part of a breeding plan.
