Henry Cavill sadly hangs up his cape as Superman (DC film news).

Well, it looks like Warner Bros. Discovery is really shaking things up when it comes to the DC Universe! After firing Henry Cavill as Superman and scrapping Wonder Woman 3, the new studio heads have reportedly “cleared the slate” and are now turning their attention to the next superhero to axe. So who’s on the chopping block?

According to sources close to the situation, DC’s biggest heroes are all at risk of being cut from the franchise. Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and even the Flash are all rumoured to be on the chopping block as James Gunn and Peter Safran work on their 10-year masterplan for the DC Extended Universe.

But don’t worry, dear reader, because I have sad news for you: the next superhero to get the axe will be none other than Batgirl! Yes, that’s right, the caped crusader’s sidekick is reportedly next on the chopping block, and sources say that her upcoming movie has already been scrapped in the final stages of production.

This news comes as a surprise to many fans, who were eagerly anticipating the release of Batgirl’s standalone movie. The movie was reportedly in the final stages of production, with star actress Margot Robbie already in talks to reprise her role as Harley Quinn in a supporting role. But it looks like those plans have been shelved, at least for now.

The news of hanging up the red cape also comes as a shock to Cavill, who took to Instagram to share his disappointment about being fired as Superman. In a lengthy post, Cavill expressed his gratitude to the fans and said that he respected the studio’s decision to move in a different direction.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill wrote. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [Gunn and Safran’s] hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter are great guys and I’m sure they will do a fantastic job of continuing the DC Universe in the way that it deserves to be continued.”

It’s unclear what direction Gunn and Safran plan to take the DC Universe in, but it’s clear that they’re not afraid to make big changes. And with four DC movies slated for release in 2023, fans will have to wait and see how the franchise evolves. Until then, it’s anyone’s guess who will be next on the chopping block. Stay tuned!
