Greenland (scifi disaster movie: trailer).

Just what you need during a pandemic, a fictional apocalypse movie, in this case Greenland starring Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Scott Glenn, Andrew Bachelor and David Denman (and directed by Ric Roman Waugh).

Greenland features a comet passing by Earth, with its fragments splitting off and creating lots of little ‘Deep Impacts’.

Sadly, Bruce Willis and his crew of miners isn’t on hand to save us, leaving Gerard Butler and his family desperately trying to reach Greenland where the global elite – who knew what was coming but lied about it – have created a series of large city-sized bunkers to survive.

In theory at least, this film should be arriving c. June 12th 2020.

* Story update. The trailer has now been removed at the request of the studio, even though they released it in the first place. Ditto, the film release. This move has been linked to orders by various government agencies around the world. Let’s hope there are no legs to the connection between this and Comet ATLAS disintegrating into more than two dozen pieces, as imaged by Hubble last year (the current working theory is the original nucleus spun itself into pieces because of the jet action of outgassing from sublimating ices. Because such venting is probably not evenly dispersed across the comet, it enhances the break-up). This is the comet that was discovered at the end of 2019, by the ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) robotic astronomical survey system based in Hawaii, hence the comet’s odd name. This NASA-supported survey project for Planetary Defense operates two telescopes that scan for E.L.E. Earth-dangerous comets and asteroids.

  • That trailer (Greenland) seems to be a no-no – marked as being ‘Unavailable’ and ‘private’…

Greenland, eh? I wonder if a certain someone who wanted to buy the place knows something the rest of us mortals do not…
