Doctor Who spin-off, Class, to replace Sarah Jane Adventures for kids.
Class – a new eight episode (each ep. 45 minutes long) Doctor Who spin-off for children is on the way via the pen of U.S. young adult author Patrick Ness, and is intended to replace the Sarah Jane Adventures. The series will film in Wales and the UK from the spring of 2016, and will air first on BBC3 later next year.
Class will be set in modern-day London’s Coal Hill School. Shocking dangers are set to smash through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. Will the kids be up to the task? Helped by a few familiar Dr Who faces (including a certain Scottish Time Lord, K9 and a friendly Sontaran commander), we reckon the pupils of Coal Hill may well survive.
Steven Moffat said, “No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant storytelling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain – but with monsters!”
On his first television series, Patrick Ness added, “I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.”
Ness also has a novel coming shortly as a film, A Monster Calls, which has been filmed for release in 2016 and stars Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones.
