Comics Up Close (comic-book events news).

Attention all comic book enthusiasts! Are you tired of the same old events that never seem to offer anything new or exciting? Well, pack your bags and head to Manchester in February 2023, because the Lakes International Comic Art Festival’s “Comics Up Close” event is back and it’s bringing all sorts of fresh perspectives on comics.

Taking place at the Manchester Museum on Tuesday, February 21st 2023 (also known as UNESCO Mother Language Day, in case you were wondering), Comics Up Close will feature talks from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Dave McKean and Benoît Peeters. These guys know their stuff when it comes to comics, and they’ll be discussing everything from the role of comics in the world of art and culture to the impact of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence on the way we create and consume comics.

But it’s not just about the big names. Comics Up Close will also bring together leading academics, creative professionals, and passionate advocates from around the globe to share new research and thinking on all things comics. And with the event moving between universities in the north of England, there’s sure to be a diverse and exciting mix of perspectives on offer.

So don’t miss out on this opportunity to dive deep into the world of comics with some of the best and brightest in the business. And who knows, maybe you’ll even leave with a new appreciation for the Ninth Art (that’s what they call comics in France, FYI). Just be sure to register your interest early in January by emailing Richard Foster at rfprojectscumbria@gmail.com, and you’ll be sent all the necessary booking links. See you there!
