Fingers crossed my editor won’t decide to Force-choke-me by reviewing two products at once, but having ‘Darth Vader, Together We Will Rule the Galaxy’ and ‘Yoda, Bring You Wisdom I Will’ are two sides of the same coin. Both Jedi Masters with very different outlooks on life. That airlock looks so inviting.

These gifts or novelty desk items from Chronicle Books each contain a figurine of either Darth Vader or Yoda and a book of quotes from each of the characters. While Yoda’s quotes sound like philosophy ‘Clear your mind of questions’, Vader’s tend to be more on the declarations of evil side of things, ‘The Emperor will show you the true nature of the Force. He is your master now.’ Each of the accompanying books has a variety of stills across the first six ‘Star Wars’ films including, pleasingly evil Anakin shots from ‘The Revenge Of The Sith’. Each book is 48 pages long and in that small size pioneered by titles like ‘The Little Book Of Calm’ or ‘The Tao Of Pooh’.

The figurines themselves are not in the same scale, but do the job of looking impressive on your desk or mantel. The Vader figurine stands about 4.3 inches (11cm) high and is sculpted by Gentle Giant with a fair paint job. Yoda meanwhile is smaller standing at 3.5 inches (9cm), complete with walking stick and cream cloak. The eyes didn’t seem to be painted that well and so he looks a little drunk. The sculpt here was by Starlite. Of the two figures, Vader probably just edges it in terms of detail in the figurine.

Each figurine comes complete with a rigid cardboard mount, Yoda’s shows his home on Dagobah while Vader’s is crimson with a white flash across one corner. Another difference is that Yoda also comes with a series of stickers containing some of his most famous quotes. The stickers are in the form of speech bubbles, so if you felt inclined you could stick Yoda’s quote next to the figurine while he stands in front of his Dagobah background. If you want to mess with people’s heads a little more do that with the ‘Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose‘ which is from ‘Revenge Of The Sith’ when Yoda was nowhere near his swampy hideout.

These books and figurines are cute ornaments and reading material for the casual or more ardent ‘Star Wars’ fan a neat way of reminding yourself of a time before ‘The Force Awakens’ when the calm of Yoda countered the anger of Vader and a young lad from Tattooine tried to make sense of it all. Cute.
