Steampunk Commodore 64 laptop sizzles.

One of the more interesting items to feature at this years CES 2019 show in the USA surely must be the Steampunk Commodore 64 laptop modded by the UK’s very own Bad Dog Designs. Might as well mod it, eh, anyone still working on a Commodore 64 probably feels like they are stuck in the steam age. It […]
Volcanoids: are you a manic (steampunk) miner? (game trailer).

Here’s an interesting looking steampunk game – Volcanoids, where you play a pilot of a drill-ship (think the mole-tanks from Stephen Hunt’s Jackelian novels). You have to explore and mine your way to glory on a mysterious island run by some nutter with an army of killer steammen robots. The drill-ship itself looks very nice with […]
Mortal Artists (the concept art behind the Mortal Engines movie).

Peter Jackson ordered a steampunk take for his first Mortal Engines movie that might make even a Stephen Hunt Jackelian book blush with faux-Victorian science fictional pride. Here is Universal’s look at the art and artists behind that steampunkish shine from Philip Reeve’s original literary creation.
Mortal Engines (brilliant new trailer).

Another great-looking trailer for the steampunkish Mortal Engines movie, based on the fine book by Philip Reeve, and brought to life by Peter Jackson and the Weta Workshop crew. Hundreds of years after civilisation was destroyed by a nuclear war, a mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can […]
Mortal Engines film, featurette the first.

If you like your movies looking like a Stephen Hunt Jackelian novel (or in this case, the Philip Reeve steampunk book of the same name). then you’ve no doubt been waiting for the new Mortal Engines film from Peter Jackson. Here’s a little something to whet your appetite while you wait for its release. Mortal Engines […]
Mortal Engines (behind the scenes video).

A glance behind the curtain for the upcoming Peter Jackson movie ‘Mortal Engines‘ – based on the YA steampunk book of the same name by writer Philip Reeve. Here’s the film’s official blurb … Thousands of years after civilisation was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has […]
Nemo Rising by C. Courtney Joyner (book review).

It’s a long time since I read ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ by Jules Verne, so I don’t remember a great deal about it. Admittedly, it’s even longer than that since Jules Verne wrote it in 1870. ‘Nemo Rising’ features the return of Captain Nemo and the Nautilus, as well as more sea creatures, marvellously […]
Mortal Engines (steampunk movie: second trailer).

Here’s the second trailer for Peter Jackson’s upcoming adaption of the steampunk-scifi Mortal Engines novel. It’s looking very interesting at least from a visual point of view – like someone breathed life into Stephen Hunt’s Jackelian books. I mean, come on, Court of the Air, anyone? Definitely a flick to watch.
The War of the Worlds via the BBC starts production.

Filming has begun in Liverpool on The War of the Worlds, the adaptation by Peter Harness (of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell fame) of H.G. Wells’ science fiction alien invasion tale. This new three-part drama stars Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Rafe Spall (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Big Short) alongside Robert Carlyle (T2:Trainspotting, Once Upon […]
Frostpunk – the steampunk city-builder game.

Here’s the new trailer for Frostpunk, the steampunk city-builder game set during a future ice-age. The game from 11 bit Studios looks excellent, but I can’t help but wonder why all these computer games inspired by the feel-and-themes of Stephen Hunt’s best-selling Jackelian steampunk novels (in this case the future ice-age that preceded Jackelia’s rise) don’t just bite […]
