Blade Runner 2049: the greatest sci-fi movie ever, that commercially failed? (video)

Denis Villeneueve scifi film Blade Runner 2049 is a remarkable movie, but still ended up flopping in the box office.

In the film, Ryan Gosling plays K, a Nexus-9 replicant “blade runner” who uncovers a secret that threatens to destabilise society and the course of civilisation. Ridley Scott stepped down as the film’s initial director and then worked as an executive producer.

So, why does a great movie like this actually end up losing money?

  • It flopped because it was rubbish. The soundtrack was bland, story was meh. Visually it did ok, and was a watchable movie, but as a sequel to the original Blade Runner a heavy let down.
