Actor Aron Eisenberg – Nog the Ferengi – sadly passes aged only 50 (news).

Actor Aron Eisenberg has passed away at the too-young age of 50, we are told by his wife, Malíssa Longo (Aron was born with only one partially-functioning kidney, limiting his height, and received kidney transplants at the age of 17 and 46 – it was this that caused him to leave us so blooming early).

Aron played Nog the teenage Ferengi through all seven seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In the show, young Nog becomes the very first Ferengi to join Starfleet (playing Rom’s son and Quark’s nephew).

Aron also appeared without all his usual Ferengi makeup as a news vendor in the episode Far Beyond the Stars; as well as later guest-starring as a Kazon called Kar in Initiations, an episode of Star Trek Voyager, and was a host/producer of the Star Trek-themed podcast The 7th Rule.

Armin Shimerman (Quark) said on Twitter via his @ShimermanArmin account:

I have lost a great friend and the world has lost a great heart @AronEisenberg He was a man of conviction and enormous sensitivity and the best of humanity. Kitty and I grieve for Aron, his boys, and Malissa. Flights of angels my friend…you will be missed. There are no words…

Goodbye, Aron.
